In the orientation week of Semester 2 2022 we are giving away seed bombs and seed mixes. Visit the Facebook page of our friends at the UMSU Environment Department for more information on when to get the seeds.
If you need help with sowing the seeds, we will be hosting an event at our community garden soon to help you out. There you will also be provided with pots and soil.
Find here instructions on how to use the seed mix and seed bombs.
Seeds were purchased from CERES nursery, or harvested from our garden.
Seed Bomb Instructions
Seed bombs are best suited to be grown outdoors.
Plant the bombs in the evening or before rain.
Find a spot with enough space for the mature plant to grow. Weeding is necessary when the spot is overgrown.
Spots with topsoil and moisture are best suited.
Place the seed bomb directly on top of the soil and water it regularly.
Seeds will germinate within one to two weeks.
Seed mix
Seed mixes with flowers or vegetables are best suited for outdoor growing. Herb mixes can be grown indoors. However, all seeds can be started indoors in small pots or punnets.
To sow the seeds a potting mix or seed raising mix works best.
Distribute the seeds on the soil and lightly cover them.
Indoors: place pots in a warm place with sufficient light. Outdoors: keep the pots in a warm place, avoid direct sunlight.
Water the seeds regularly to keep the soil moist, but avoid overwatering and soggy soil.
Seeds will germinate within one to two weeks.
Seedlings can be transferred outdoors or into bigger pots when the first 4-6 leaves have formed.
